Youth 4 Tomorrow

"Youth 4 Tommorrow"

.

Worthy charitable programs and a dozen young people were the beneficiaries of a joint venture to promote philanthropy at the 2 nd Annual "Youth 4 Tomorrow" Program organized and sponsored by Coral Gables Community Foundation and Evensky & Katz Wealth Management. After a successful event in 2006, CGCF and Evensky & Katz held their second event on Friday, July 13, 2007. David Evensky, Gloria Burns, Roxanne Alexander, Matt McGrath, Sandra Rivera, and Nezer Boakye helped coordinate and run this half-day grant making workshop. CGCF Board member Gabe Castrillon, General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables, provided a great venue for this program attracting participation of young people ages 15 – 22 who came from around the Greater Miami area, Boca Raton and even Massachusetts . After being divided into teams, the group reviewed and evaluated grant proposals from eight different youth related charities. While enjoying a selection of great pizzas, bread sticks and chicken wings generously donated by Papa John’s Pizza, the teams prepared presentations on the proposals they were assigned.

Lunch was followed by presentations, after which each participant was invited to recommend $300 in grants to be disbursed however they wished. As each prospective grantee began with $200, a total of $5,300.00 was awarded to the following programs: Miami Children’s Chorus, Shake-A-Leg, St. Alban’s Child Enrichment Center, His House Children’s Home, Coral Gables Woman’s Club May Van Sickle Children’s Dental Clinic, Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Community Kosher Food Bank, Sunil Social Services Home (orphanage in India), and Jr. Orange Bowl Sports Ability Games.

Among the young people enjoying this exercise in philanthropy were Amanda Baldi, Vanessa Monzon, Shana Kronish, Karen Blaire, Graham Stonebraker, Emily Northup, Alex Guerra, Diego Alonso, Carolina De Armas, Deanna Parrish, Stephanie Cohen and Andrei Javier.

Those interested in participating in future Y 4 T programs may apply by calling the Foundation office at (305) 446-9670.
