Coral Gables
Community Foundation has presented a series of fine wine dining experiences
over the past few years that have been very well received by wine lovers
in our community. Several fine restaurants have hosted the series
including The Biltmore Hotel’s Palme d’Or, the Hyatt Regency
Coral Gables Two Sisters Restaurant, the Miami City Club, Mosaico and
most recently at the Hoja Nueva located in the Westin Colonnade Hotel.
Proceeds from these dinners benefit the Foundation discretionary funds
helping the Foundation serve our community.
Those interested
in getting of the mailing list for these affairs should contact the
Foundation office at 305 446-9670.

Coral
Gables Community Foundation’s
Evensky
& Katz
2nd
Annual Golf Tournament
Evensky
& Katz Wealth Management held it 2 nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament
at The Biltmore Golf Course on November 8th. With cooler dry
weather, the day was perfect for this event that drew participants locally
and from around the United States. The day began with breakfast and some
practice on the driving range. After playing 18 holes on the newly renovate
course, the crowd gathered in the Alhambra Ballroom for a BBQ lunch during
which awards were presented.
Evensky
& Katz was especially grateful for iShares participation
as a major sponsor. They gathered lots of support from sponsors such as
Fidelity Investments, Waste Management of Dade County, Julius Baer, PIMCO
Funds, Thornburg Investment Management, Schroder Investment Management,
Goldman Sachs and another ten or so others generous donors. It looks as
if this year’s event will raise 20 - 30% more than the inaugural event
last year all of which will go back to the community.
Seen
swinging clubs that day were Charles Sachs, Lou Lesperance, Daniel
Novela, Jeff Cutler, Ray Kayal, Taylor Gang, John Sorgie, Ann
Goodrich, Scott Goldberg, Cameron Sisser, Monte Glicken
Steve
Parsons, Alex Menendez, Rocky Young, Brian Lebensburger and Lane Jones.
Working
with Coral Gables Community Foundation, Evensky & Katz raised these
funds to be distributed to Baptist Health So. Fla. Foundation, University
of Miami Advancement, Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation, University
of Miami Advancement and Coral Gables Community Foundation’s Youth
Philanthropy program that disperse funds to several other non-profits on the advice
of young advisors.
“Greening
of the Gables” Gala
Coral Gables
Community Foundation’s annual travel and lifestyle auction was
replaced in 2007 under the leadership of Chair Howard Glicken with the
Greening of the Gables Gala held January 19, at. The Biltmore Hotel.
Proceeds
from this event benefit the Foundation’s unrestricted funds with
a portion supporting the “Greening of the Gables” initiative
that will be working with the City to replace the tree canopy lost during
past hurricanes and enhance landscaping and tree cover in urban and
residential areas.
Next year's
affair is already scheduled for January 25, 2008, at
The Biltmore Hotel, and promises to be better than ever.
The ATHENA program honors
individuals who have helped women in business reach their full potential.
Civic groups and Chambers of Commerce are licensed through the ATHENA
International to present the award in their county and Coral Gables
Community Foundation is the licensee for Miami-Dade County. 2007
is the 21st anniversary year for GM as a national sponsor for the ATHENA
Award program, making the title sponsorship of Williamson Cadillac HUMMER
for a second year very special.
